After suffering from burnout and an existential crisis, Montréal advertising executive Mathyas Lefebure abandons his fast-paced city life to seek peace and purpose in the French Alps. Drawn by the dream of simplicity and authenticity, he decides to become a shepherd, despite having no experience in farming or rural life.

At first, the journey is romantic and freeing — vast landscapes, silence, and the company of animals. But Mathyas quickly learns that the pastoral dream hides harsh realities: loneliness, physical exhaustion, unpredictable weather, and the endless demands of tending to hundreds of sheep. Amid this struggle, he meets Élise, a civil servant who is inspired by his courage and joins him in this new life. Together, they spend a summer herding 800 sheep with only a border collie and each other for support.

As the seasons pass, their connection deepens while they confront the true meaning of endurance, purpose, and love in an unforgiving yet beautiful world. Shepherds is a quiet, soul-searching drama about transformation, the tension between idealism and reality, and rediscovering oneself through nature’s discipline.
