Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) is a historical crime drama that exposes one of America’s darkest true stories — the Osage murders of the 1920s.

When oil is discovered on the land of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma, the Indigenous people become some of the wealthiest individuals in the world. But their newfound prosperity draws greed and corruption. Beneath the surface of this wealth lies a brutal conspiracy: white settlers, led by the cunning cattleman William King Hale, plot to steal Osage oil rights through marriage, manipulation, and murder.

At the center of the story is Ernest Burkhart, a World War I veteran who returns home and marries Mollie Kyle, an Osage woman. Torn between his love for Mollie and loyalty to his uncle Hale, Ernest becomes an unwilling accomplice in the systematic killings of Mollie’s family and other Osage members. As the death toll rises, the newly formed Bureau of Investigation (later the FBI) steps in to uncover the horrifying truth.

Through tragedy, betrayal, and greed, the film explores how an entire people were nearly destroyed for their wealth — and how justice, though partial, came too late.
