Set in the Tang Dynasty during the Tianbao era, The Lychee Road follows Li Shande, a low-ranking official suddenly tasked with an impossible mission — to transport fresh lychees from the distant southern province of Lingnan to the imperial capital of Chang’an. As he nears his destination, Li realizes the true weight of his mission: it’s not just about delivering fruit, but about surviving a system that values appearances over lives. His courage and endurance stand in stark contrast to the greed and indifference of those in power. The story culminates in a bittersweet ending where loyalty and sacrifice meet the harsh reality of imperial politics.
